Staff

Steven Bruce, Legal Director, worked for the Social Security Administration as a Senior Staff Attorney. In 2000, he founded People With Disabilities Foundation. Steven has worked for the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Offices for Civil Rights, was a supervisor in the Government Benefits Unit for Legal Aid, and was an Assistant Public Defender. He is a former Senior Staff Attorney for the Social Security Administration.  He has a B.A. in Economics and Psychology, with honors, from the University of California at Berkeley. His J.D. is from the University of San Francisco School of Law.

April Banerjee, Executive Director and Program Manager for Public Awareness and Education, has experience as a training manager, a technical communicator, and an administrator. Her work involved energy management, including for low-income households. She has researched and written about environmental issues. She holds a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and is a member of the California State Bar.

Farrell Goodman, Advocacy Program Manager, practiced as a private trial and transaction attorney for over 10 years.  He worked as a senior editor of electronic and print legal publications with a publishing company, and as an administrator for a County Board of Elections in the State of Ohio.  In addition, Farrell was the Adjunct Professor of Business Law at Wilmington College in Cincinnati for 13 years, and served as the Legal Redress Officer for a branch of the NAACP, where he investigated and resolved numerous civil rights claims.  He holds a J.D. from Pepperdine University, where he was President of the Entertainment Law Society and Brief Writer for the Benjamin Cardozo Moot Court team.  He is a member of the California, North Carolina and Ohio State Bars, and has a Masters of Education from Xavier University.

Timothy Roscoe Carter, Supervisory Attorney, has been an attorney representing Social Security claimants for over 15 years and he has been to over a thousand hearings.  He graduated from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a degree in Communication Studies, and from Golden Gate University with a Juris Doctorate and a Master of Science in Taxation.  He has a wife and three children, a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and is an advocate for the abolition of poverty via a basic income guarantee.

Laurence Jones, Program Coordinator for Public Awareness and Education, comes to People with Disabilities Foundation with 7 years of Educational Non-Profit Experience. His work history includes advocating for education equity in underserved communities in the San Francisco Bay Area, Program Development and Program Management. In addition, he has 5 years of online automotive journalism experience. 

Todd Leachman, Program Coordinator for Technology – Education & Public Awareness, Todd has experience in all aspects of media including strategy planning, field production (live-on-tape television/video/live streaming), web design/content management, social media and video editing. Previous roles include audio engineer, technical director and broadcast producer. Todd is passionate about several community issues including homelessness, at-risk youth, and gender equality.
