Counsel’s Corner: PWDF Files Lawsuit in Federal Court Against the Social Security Administration (SSA) for Discrimination Based on Disability (Schizophrenia)

In the Spotlight: A Glimpse into the State of Psychiatric Research

PWDF Updates

Advocacy: We filed a new discrimination case against the Social Security Administration (SSA) in federal court for reasonable accommodations for a client testified to be acutely schizophrenic who was forced to wait two years for his first Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefit check. Case No. 3:23-cv-01037 in Northern California. We also have several cessation cases at the SSA administrative law judge (ALJ) level, with more cases that never should have received termination of benefit notices. We are seeking to hire two disability lawyers; see our Careers page for more information. http://www.pwdf.org/managing-attorney-position-2/

Education/Public Awareness: Our next 3-hour seminar is still on hold since the pandemic due to short staffing. The planned topic is Older Adults with Psychiatric and/or Developmental Disabilities. More information to be announced in a future e-newsletter.
